The Harvest Gold Finish was introduced in 1980 seemingly first on the E2 model and then later on other models like the Les Paul Custom in 1981. The first batch of these "Gold Burst" Les Paul Customs had a real bronze metal flake in the outer edge which caused an awful case of orange peeling to occur after the finish fully cured (which can take years) and if you continued to play them, it wasn't uncommon fo the finish to simply start flaking off or turn green, especially on the neck. Most of these were sent back to Gibson and refinished under warranty so very few "original hue" Gold Burst customs exist yet today in any condition. The 2nd iteration likely had a silver base coat and is more of a lighter gold burst - still cool, but not quite as iconic. These are typically called Gold Burst, Harvest Burst or Bronze Burst in online forums, but the official color by Gibson is "Harvest Gold." It is important to note that the XR-1 Catalog from 1981 does in fact refer to THAT particular color as "Goldburst" so there were definitely at least 3 hues to this color In many ways, the reason why this one was probably spared the refinishing process was due to someone swapping out the neck pickup for a Ttop, likely early on in the guitar's life which would've voided the warranty.
