Hello everyone, this is C.Y. Thanks for joining me! Today, I’m fixing a customer’s DF64 Generation 1 grinder, which got jammed after she accidentally mishandled it while making coffee. I’ll open it up, diagnose the issue, and hopefully restore it. First, I power on the grinder and notice the burrs aren’t turning, indicating it’s completely choked. After unplugging it for safety, I disassemble the grinder and find the lower chamber clogged with hardened coffee grounds. Using a sharp tool and a vacuum, I clear the blockage and clean the heavily greased and dirty components. The burrs are tarnished and rusty, possibly due to water exposure or non-food-grade lubricant. After cleaning and relubricating the collar with food-grade grease, I reassemble the grinder and adjust the grind settings. The grinder now works smoothly, with the espresso and filter coffee ranges properly set. I emphasize the importance of using food-grade lubricant and being careful when reassembling to avoid cross-threading, which can permanently damage the aluminum body.
