Unboxing the First Pilot Enterprise: 1/350 Polar Lights USS Enterprise from The Cage

What's up, Plastic Addicts? In this video, we're kicking off a series where I’ll be building the 1/350 USS Enterprise from Star Trek: The Original Series, focusing on the “First Pilot” version from The Cage. I’ve built this kit once before, back in 2013 with the Premier Edition, which, like this one, came with parts for all three versions of the ship. I have nothing but praise for this kit—it’s incredibly well-engineered, with fantastic part fit, and assembly is a breeze, especially if you’re not adding lighting. However, the challenge with this build comes in making it accurate to the First Pilot version. There’s very little reference material for this specific model, and even fewer details about the differences between the 11-foot and 3-foot filming miniatures. One thing that is clear: the original Cage model had no lighting, a completely smooth hull, and windows that were simply markings, not cutouts. So, for full accuracy, all the windows need to be filled and sanded smooth, and nearly all the raised detail—shuttle bay doors, raised areas on the intercoolers, rear nacelle caps—has to be removed.
