In this talk, Dr. Jayanthi V, a Vice-Chancellor and medical professional, explores the profound transition from hearing to the transformative art of listening. Her journey reflects a life of dual melodies: the rhythmic strains of music that seeped into her heart through a wall and the high-stakes world of medicine chosen out of love for her father’s final wish. Through this sacrifice, she reveals a vital truth, we must listen to others when they guide us, but listen to ourselves when it defines us. Drawing on the "iceberg" of human emotion, Dr. Jayanthi explains that true listening requires exploring the 90 percent hidden beneath the surface: the unspoken dreams and silent struggles. She reminds us that leadership and healing grow from presence rather than power Dr. Jayanthi V isn’t just an academic leader; she’s a listener in a world that rarely slows down. As a Vice-Chancellor, she leads with quiet strength, rooted in the ability to hear what others overlook. A respected force in medical education, she has authored a widely used anatomy textbook for nursing and allied health sciences and served as Editor-in-Chief of a reputed journal. Her journey has been marked by distinguished honours, including the Nari Shakti Award and the Arjuna Award - national recognitions that celebrate her leadership and enduring commitment to empowering learners. She perfectly embodies our theme “SHRAVAN - finding one’s voice in a noisy world.” Her leadership is rooted in the art of deep, attentive listening - to students, to colleagues, to the institution, and to the quiet wisdom within.
