Skiing the Caroline Face of Aoraki / Mount Cook, First Descent (??) // DAVE SEARLE

Myself and Ross Hewitt made this (possible) first descent on the skiers left side of the Caroline Face of Mount Cook / Aoraki. We climbed to a flat spot on the east ridge and dropped in having seen the face from Cinerama Col a few days before. We skied this 650m line in near perfect conditions for New zealand Standards! This was a super powerful experience and one that will live with me for a long time. This slope is a great descent and would make a good consolation prize to the East Face which we skied a few days after this. The day after the East face we skied the (likely) 2nd descent of the Bowie Couloir, topping off a great ten day trip to the Plateau Hut.
