Written by Sarah VanMetre | MgoBlue.com The No. 14-ranked Michigan women's basketball team never trailed and had four players in double figures to knock off No. 18-ranked Notre Dame 93-54 in the Shamrock Classic on Saturday afternoon (Nov. 15) at Wayne State Fieldhouse. Olivia Olson led the way for Michigan (3-0), going for 20 points, six rebounds and three assists. Mila Holloway turned in 12 points, seven rebounds, five assists and two steals, with Syla Swords going for 11 points, nine rebounds and two assists. Ashley Sofilkanich rounded out Michigan's double-figure scorers, recording 10 points on 5-for-6 shooting from the field. Michigan held a 50-28 advantage on the glass, turning 16 offensive rebounds into 19 points. Brooke Quarles Daniels grabbed 10 rebounds and recorded three steals in the first start of her Michigan career. Michigan started strong, scoring the first seven points behind to start on a Soflikanich layup, a Swords triple and an Olson finish in transition, forcing an Irish timeout with 8:08 left in the first quarter. The Irish (3-1) answered with a 6-0 run to get within a point, as U-M was scoreless for nearly five minutes until a Kendall Dudley putback with just under three minutes left in the first quarter for an 11-8 U-M lead. Back-to-back triples from Swords gave Michigan a 17-10 lead after 10 minutes as Michigan weathered the scoring drought to remain on top after one quarter. After Notre Dame trimmed the Michigan lead to single digits in the opening moments of the second quarter, a Holloway three-point play with just over six minutes to go after a pair of Swords free throws pushed the advantage back to double figures, where it stayed the rest of the contest. Michigan took a 46-29 lead at the half behind 11 points from Swords, 10 from Olson and nine from Holloway. Michigan took advantage of rebounding on the offensive glass, turning in 12 second-chance points over the first 20 minutes. U-M scored nine of the first 11 points of the third quarter, forcing Notre Dame to call a timeout with 7:08 left and the Wolverines up 55-31. The Irish answered with an 8-0 run, trimming Michigan's lead back to 16, 55-39, just past the midway point of the third. U-M returned the favor with its own 8-0 run, capped by an Alyssa Crockett layup at the 1:26 mark for a 63-39 lead. It was all Michigan in the final quarter as U-M outscored the Irish 28-12 over the final 10 minutes. Seven Wolverines found the scoring column in the fourth, led by seven from Te'Yala Delfosse and six from McKenzie Mathurin to wrap up the 39-point victory. Michigan is back at home on Tuesday (Nov. 18) at 7 p.m., hosting Binghamton at Crisler Center. The game will be streamed live on B1G+. Read More: https://mgoblue.com/news/2025/11/15/w...
