Born in 1735 in Delhi, he was the cherished child of his parents, arriving as a long-awaited son after twelve daughters. His birth was a cause for celebration, and his early life was marked by care and comfort. When turbulent times shadowed Delhi, his mother moved with him to Agra, where he grew up and received his early education. Coming from a prosperous family, Nazeer enjoyed the luxuries of a privileged upbringing, including training as a soldier and indulging in various sports. Despite these opportunities, he chose a humble and noble path: teaching. He began his career in Mathura, educating children, including those of Raja Vilas Rao. Offers from princely courts, including Bharatpur and Lucknow, could not lure him from his simple life, reflecting his profound independence and love for his homeland. As a poet, Nazeer stood apart from his illustrious contemporaries—Meer, Sauda, Insha, and Mushafi—by venturing into uncharted territory. While the ghazal reigned supreme as the classical form of Urdu poetry, Nazeer sought inspiration in the vibrant tapestry of everyday life. His verses captured the essence of communal celebrations, festivals, sports, and the joys and struggles of ordinary people. Yet, he was far from a mere chronicler of folk life; his refined ghazals, rich in Persianised diction, place him firmly among the most sophisticated poets of his era. Nazeer Akbarabadi’s work reflects a poetic genius that transcends boundaries, celebrating both the extraordinary and the commonplace with equal fervor. He remains an enduring voice of humanity, simplicity, and universality in Urdu literature. _____ TASLEEM-O-RAZA (Khush Hal Nama) This poem by Nazeer Akbarabadiis a timeless ode to contentment and acceptance, capturing the essence of living with grace through all of life’s phases. With remarkable simplicity and profound wisdom, Nazeer celebrates the resilience of the human spirit that finds joy in both abundance and austerity. The poem reflects a philosophy of surrender and gratitude, where happiness is not bound by external circumstances but rooted in an unshakable inner peace. Through his masterful verses, Nazeer portrays the ideal of a truly fulfilled life—one that embraces every trial and triumph with equal delight. SampleText of the Urdu Poem in Roman Transliteration: Jo faqr mein poore hain woh har haal mein khush hain Har kaam mein har daam mein har jaal mein khush hain Gar maal diya yaar ne to maal mein khush hain Bezar jo kiya to isi ahwal mein khush hain Iflaas mein idbaar mein iqbal mein khush hain Poore hain wohi mard jo har haal mein khush hain #Urdu #Poetry #Literature
