The Historic Blue Forest Trail is the most popular and possibly the best of Petrified National Forest's routes. This is a 2.4-mile out-and-back trail near Chambers, Arizona. Generally considered a moderately challenging route, it takes an average of 55 min to complete. This is a very popular area for hiking but this trail is off the beaten track, so you'll likely not encounter a lot of other people while exploring. This is a great trail with spectacular views, and a great one if you are looking to escape the crowds. Some of this route is off-trail and may require some scrambling and exposed sections, so only take this on if you are looking for more of a challenge and make sure you download the AllTrails map! Downloading offline maps is recommended to navigate the off-trail sections. On this trail you will encounter desert plains, multicolored badlands and scattered deposits of petrified wood, accompanied by fantastic views the whole way.
