#ad Revoring: bit.ly/newrevoring This is not a sponsored video. Not an affiliate link. Dealing with different filter diameter sizes that you need for your lenses with various front diameters can be a real hassle. In this video, I’ll show you a new filter solution that’s easier and cheaper than alternatives. I have lenses with front diameter sizes for screw-in filters from 67mm to 72mm and up to 77mm. And that becomes a problem since I like to use various screw-in filters on my lenses, like variable neutral density, polarizing, diffusion, color correction and UV and I don’t always have the right size of each filter to fit every different lens. There are two somewhat imperfect solutions to deal with these filter/lens size mis-matches. Solution 1 is to buy a full set of all the filters you want to use in each size needed by your different lenses. So in my case, with 3 different size front diameter lenses that I want to use filters on that would mean buying 3 filters for each filter type that I want to use. This gets expensive. If I have 5 different types of filters that I want to be able to use and they each cost $100, then I would be spending $1,500 to get 5 filters in 3 different sizes rather than just $500 for one size of each. It is also a hassle carrying around all those extra filters in different sizes and then trying to find the right one in your bag when you need it, not to mention the added weight to your bag. Solution 2 is to get a series of adapter rings, called step-up and step-down rings, which allow you to fit one size filter on different size front diameter lenses as long as you have the right ring or combination of rings. In this scenario, you need just one of each filter, not one separate filter for each lens. And while not as expensive as buying all those separate filters, it is still a confusing and time consuming experience trying to find the right adapter ring in the field while you’re trying to shoot in order to match a particular filter with a specific lens. This approach usually means buying the largest size filter to fit your largest lens and then “stepping down” with an adaptor ring to the other size lenses when you need to. Now there’s a new product which can help solve this filter sizing mania. It’s called Revoring and it’s a single variable size adaptor ring that lets you fit one single filter to a variety of different lenses without the need for a full set of different size adaptor rings. You screw your filter on the front of the Revoring and then twist the dial on the Revoring to adjust the size of the threads on the back to fit a range of lens front diameter sizes. Genius! Now while the Revoring itself is bigger and a bit clunkier than typical step-up adaptor rings, it means you have just one single item to carry and grab in your bag, knowing it will fit any of your lenses. The Revoring comes in different size ranges depending on the different lens diameters you want it to fit, but once you make that choice based on your particular set of lenses, you only need one Revoring. Revoring also comes in 2 flavors. One is just the adaptor itself and the second includes the Revoring itself with a variable neutral density and polarizing filter built-in.
