Meckel's Diverticulum and the Rule of 2 – Meckel's Diverticulum Explained Meckel's diverticulum is a congenital anomaly involving a bulge in the lower small intestine, a remnant of the omphalomesenteric duct from fetal development. The "Rule of 2" helps remember its key features: it occurs in 2% of the population, is located 2 feet from the ileocecal valve, is 2 inches long, contains 2 types of ectopic tissue (gastric and pancreatic), and 2% of affected individuals experience symptoms. It is twice as common in males and often presents within the first 2 years of life. Symptoms include abdominal pain, gastrointestinal bleeding, and intestinal obstruction. Diagnosis is challenging and may involve a Meckel scan, CT, MRI, or ultrasound. Symptomatic cases typically require surgical removal of the diverticulum. #Meckel'sDiverticulum #Meckel'sDiverticulumandtheRuleof2 #Meckel'sDiverticulumExplained Join this channel to get access to perks: / @learnmedicineasap --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Subscribe for more medical and health content: / @learnmedicineasap Check out our other helpful playlists Obstetrics and Gynecology • Obstetrics and Gynecology General Surgery Lessons • General Surgery Lessons Internal Medicine • Internal Medicine Child Health and Pediatrics • Child Health and Pediatrics Pharmacology Lecture Videos • Pharmacology Lecture Videos Anaesthesiology | Anesthesiology • Anaesthesiology | Anesthesiology Medical Parasitology • Medical Parasitology Infectious Diseases • Infectious Diseases Pathology • Pathology Microbiology • Microbiology Anatomy • Anatomy Ear Nose and Throat - ENT • Ear Nose and Throat - ENT Oral Health | Oral Hygiene | Dental Health • Oral Health | Oral Hygiene | Dental Health Ophthalmology | Eye Infections | Eye Diseases • Ophthalmology | Eye Infections | Eye Diseases Oncology • Oncology Sexually Transmitted Disease (STD) | Sexual Wellness & Health - Sexual Infection | STI • Sexually Transmitted Disease (STD) | Sexua...
