The Rainbow Painting Method. Painting the Traditional way but with Colour as Value. Sometimes we take the block in way too seriously, it is too structured when your reference material is your imagination. I use a totally different method when blocking in a painting from imagination. I call it the RAINBOW method. Why is it called the rainbow method? I'm glad you asked, a rainbow is blurry, it is diffused by light and so when I approach the block in from imagination I do not define any details, I just want to set the overall scene therefore you are letting the scene slowly appear, just like a dream, you can see your dreams but you cant remember all the details of them. It's about colour value not about the exact colour. The real work starts here to hone it into a realism masterpiece! This will be a chaptered Series of how I paint this massive Diptych Landscape Painting. This will be my most ambitious painting to date! The challenge of painting a Diptych is making a cohesive piece of art when the canvas has essentially been broken in half. I want to have apposing panels a negative and a positive but make a cohesive overall work. I have had this thought for this work for a good 5 years now so its time to make this happen.
