The Economics of Art: Policy, Innovation, and Inclusion | Shrabani Basu, Scott McDonald, Gary Tinterow, and Max Hollein in conversation with Sanjoy K. Roy How can policy shape the future of India’s cultural and creative industries? How can the sector be mapped and what are the policies that need to drive innovation, cultural preservation, and economic growth? And how do creative economies help build bridges? An illustrious panel, including Shrabani Basu, Scott McDonald, CEO British Council; Gary Tinterow, Director of the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston; Max Hollein, CEO of Metropolitan Museum of Art, discuss government initiatives and strategies in India, UAE, the United Kingdom and USA, in order to foster an inclusive and dynamic creative economy. Diving into the nuances of funding, public-private partnerships and the long-term impact of policy on cultural sustainability, they evaluate the future of the arts in India and beyond. Shrabani Basu is a journalist and Sunday Times bestselling author, known for Victoria & Abdul, Spy Princess, and The Mystery of the Parsee Lawyer. She frequently comments on Indian history and the Empire and has been awarded an honorary DLitt by the University of London. Scott McDonald is Chief Executive of the British Council. A Harvard-trained art historian, Tinterow has curated acclaimed exhibitions across contemporary and 19th-century European art and has earned prestigious honors from France and Spain for his contributions to cultural exchange and preservation. Max Hollein is the Director and Chief Executive Officer of The Metropolitan Museum of Art.
