What you’ll hear isn’t a polished leadership playbook. It’s a conversation about learning the terrain of higher education, leading systems that weren’t built for us, and choosing to stay human while still doing the heavy work. We talk about tenderness and vulnerability, the emotional and psychological toll that leadership can carry for BIPOC leaders, and what it looks like to protect your spirit while still showing up with purpose. We also explore what it means to bet on yourself, build thought partners and community, and create space for joy and connection in the midst of the work. If you’re a leader who has felt tired, unseen, or unsure whether this work is still worth it, this episode is for you. My hope is that you hear something that reminds you: Your strength was never the question. KEY TAKEAWAYS Leadership isn’t about arriving, it’s about becoming Tenderness and joy are essential leadership practices, not extras The toll is real, naming it helps you protect your spirit Authenticity is a form of justice for marginalized leaders Betting on yourself requires purpose, support, and strategy Community and thought partners help make leadership sustainable ABOUT THE GUEST Rachel Camacho, Ph.D. (she/her/ella) is a first-generation, system-impacted Latina scholar-practitioner, leadership architect, and equity advocate.
