Steam Locomotive M6 bought over Bass Strait from Tasmania together with a selection of ex Tasmanian Government Railway passenger carriages, on the Bellarine Peninsula Railway between Queenscliff and Drysdale in 1982. The railway itself was part of the Queenscliff broad gauge branch line from South Geelong which was converted to narrow gauge 3ft 6in to operate preserved locomotives and trains from states operating narrow gauge. At the time is was mandatory that a flagman had to stop traffic for trains at level crossings. After one such flagging operation, The train had trouble stating on the hill which had slippery rails due to rain and wintry conditions. After a gallant try amid much wheel slipping, the train eventually had to set back for another try which was more successful..
