If you are considering a move to Northbrook, here are a few reasons why you might NOT want to live here. Don't get me wrong, I live and love Northbrook for many reasons. We have top-ranked schools. The community is beautiful with a local downtown near Ravinia Festival, Chicago Botanic Gardens and Lake Michigan. There is commuter train service to Chicago which is only 25 miles. Still, when comparing other suburbs Northbrook IL may not be your first pick. Here are 5 reasons why Northbrook IL may not be for you. #1 Wide Open spaces-acre or more-more suburban feel with access to train and expressways #2 You Don’t like the Change of Seasons #3 Cook County sales tax. Our property taxes are less than in neighboring counties, but there are additional taxes to buy gas and other items. #4 Don’t care about schools and parks-get more house for your money further north and west. If your kids are grown and you can live in any suburb your dollar will stretch in other towns #5 You like the convenience of Drive thrus and strip malls. We only have one McDonald’s on one side of town and Culver’s on the other. We don’t have tons of shopping like you would find in larger towns. We mainly go to Costco or Target but if you need a variety of stores, head further west.
