Randy Newberg and Corey Jacobsen are in western New Mexico archery hunting elk in late September. This public land hunt takes place during a full moon phase, putting Corey's World Champion calling skills to the test. This is the opening day of season, when Randy is there by himself. Corey will get to New Mexico later that night, having been in a different state chasing elk. Randy is thankful for his scouting day and the day of hunting before Corey arrives. He discovers that roads previous available to some core areas of the unit are now closed, which is not all bad. A huge afternoon monsoon takes Randy off the mountain sooner than expected. This is the longer day-by-day version of the hunt, showing many parts and information that get cut to meet the abbreviated time constraints of TV.
