LAST HOUR! THE BEST WILL COME...PATRIOTS NATION NEWS The New England Patriots continue to strengthen their team despite already having made seven rounds and 12 picks in this year's NFL draft. They are now tracking undrafted free agent players who can further improve their roster. This is because the team has an impressive history of keeping undrafted free agents on their final roster, having done so for 20 consecutive seasons. Although the Patriots did a good job in this year's draft, adding several talented players, including a No. 1 cornerback in Christian Gonzalez, four cornerbacks, two speedy kick returners, two receivers, and even a new kicker and punter, there is still room for improvement. That's why they are keeping an eye on undrafted free agent players for their OTAs. Among the players the Patriots have signed as undrafted free agents are Jourdan Heilig, LB, from Appalachian State. At 6-2 and 215 pounds, he is more of a safety than a linebacker and will need to impress on special teams to secure a place on the team. Johnny Lumpkin, TE, from Louisiana, is another player the Patriots are giving a chance. At 6-5 and 264 pounds, he played seven years at the college level - two at Hutchinson Community College and five impressive ones at Louisiana - and will now have the opportunity to earn a spot on the roster as a blocking tight end. Another big name the Patriots are adding is quarterback Malik Cunningham from the University of Louisville. Although they considered trading for Kentucky's Will Levis, they ultimately gave Mac Jones a long-awaited endorsement and are adding dual-threat Cunningham to the team. He combined for nearly 4,000 yards and 39 touchdowns in 2021 but fell in his senior year's sixth round last season. With these additions, the Patriots hope to continue their tradition of keeping undrafted free agent players on their final roster while improving the quality of their team for the next season. As always, fans will be watching every move the team makes and hoping that these signings bring success to the New England Patriots. #newenglandpatriotsnews #draft #speculation
