The Government's focus on law and order this week has continued, with new penalties planned for shoplifting. It wants fines for stolen goods valued up to $500 dealt with by infringement notices sent in the mail, much like a speeding ticket. There would also be bigger fines for shoplifting done in an offensive or threatening manner.
