Today’s video features 3 separate steam locomotives all on separate railtours around the North of England! With the very beginnings of the Christmas steam season beginning and winter now in full swing, LNER A4 Pacific Class 4-6-2 60007 Sir Nigel Gresley was hauling Saphos Trains’ The Christmas White Rose from St Albans to York! A diesel took the tour to and from Peterborough with the A4 taking over for the ECML sprint along home ground via Grantham, Newark on Trent and Doncaster. LMS Black Five 4-6-0 44871 was hauling RYTC’s equally named Christmas White Rose up the ECML from London Kings Cross to York via Stevenage, Peterborough and then joining the A4’s route up to York. For the return she travelled to Doncaster and then to Lincoln before rejoining the original route at Peterborough. 45596 Bahamas was hauling Vintage Trains’ Blackpool Illuminations Express. This tour started diesel hauled from Birmingham New Street as far as Nuneaton, and then travelled steam hauled up the WCML through Tamworth, Stafford, Crewe, Warrington, Wigan and Preston before turning off to reach Blackpool North. The weather for the day was changeable although thankfully saw very little rain. Today was also filmed with my new tripod so I do apologise for any rough movements - I'm still getting used to it! Black Five 45407 was also about today hauling the Northern Belle but unfortunately I wasn’t able to include it in the plans. Chasing 3 steam trains across the breadth of the country was quite an interesting experience! I started out from my local at 5:35, travelling down to York and then changing for a train to Doncaster, after which an LNER train took me a little further south to Newark Northgate. After some breakfast, I set up on Platform 2 and awaited both 44871 and 60007, due within 20 minutes of one another. Then 44871 got badly delayed in the Huntingdon area, and due to it being 30 minutes behind schedule, we lost the shot of it at Newark. However, 60007 more than made up for it, rocketing through at 73mph and giving us a blast on the whistle! Here I met @themodster @EHSteamVideos @danielstrainsukofficial9133. With their company I now headed back to Doncaster, the birthplace of 60007, for the main show of the day, that being 60007 Sir Nigel Gresley at full blast through the centre road with whistles galore! 60007 certainly didn't disappoint and charged through the station at 70mph; even the TPE unit got in the action with its horn lol. After that, because I'd booked on a much later TPE service I was guaranteed at least one shot of 44871, which by now had made up its lost time. During the wait I spoke to @JakeBSteam, @SecondValveSteam and @BrickishRail. 44871 then came through accelerating away from the loop nicely and following green aspects to continue up the ECML. A quick meal at the pub with Thomas, Edward and Sam ensued, after which I took a TPE service across the Peak District to Manchester Oxford Road via Sheffield. I changed there and headed up to Preston, where I impatiently awaited 45596's appearance. When she did appear, she didn't disappoint and roared away from her signal check through Platform 2! My original intention was to film 45596 at Wigan however the cancellation of the next Avanti service made that impossible. The Avanti service behind that still held a glimmer of hope for overtaking before Warrington, so I grasped my opportunity and it paid off, as Bahamas was held at Golborne Junction for us to pass by. At Warrington we sadly didn't get the speed run I'd have liked due to a Leeds train coming over the crossovers. It was this same train that made the platforms very noisy but Bahamas still made an excellent noise powering away towards Crewe. At that I headed back home via Preston, Carlisle and Hexham! What a day today was, I'm impressed it went as to plan as it did; thank you as always to my company for the day, to the train operating companies that got me around, WCR, LSL, VT, the locomotives and their crews! Thanks also to my 'secondary planner' for her fantastic input as usual. I hope you all enjoy it as I did! 00:00 Intro 00:02 60007, Newark Northgate 00:42 60007, Doncaster 01:32 44871, Doncaster 02:46 45596, Preston 03:59 45596, Warrington Bank Quay 04:50 Thanks for Watching!
