The ruins of the Flavii family villas and of Lucullus have been discovered in this area. This tradition has continued to more recent times, as the most distinguished families connected with the papal nobility built their own villas in this area, thanks to its closeness to Rome and for the healthy weather conditions found here. A grand total of 12 majestic villas are still here, some visible, some converted to museums or to hotels. Frascati is also a renowned winery are as well.
