Old Road by Magpie Diaries, is a song that stems from the ongoing desire to be youthful and dealing with the fear that youthfulness might be slipping from your grasp. The fear that the stimulating unknown is being replaced with the monotony of wisdom. But as we know, there’s a beauty in the simplistic nostalgia of a life well lived and the fond memories from an earlier time. Magpie says, ‘the moment the song was recorded it always felt like the ocean was inside the music. I listen to the track with my eyes closed and I could see the waves rolling. I could see big turns arching back against a golden sunset spray. And all these memories of surfing adventures up and down the coast came flooding back… Wanting to connect the music with that vision, once the song was complete, Magpie started to reach out to various surf archives and in his search, was fortunate enough to cross paths with a Sydney based fella, Monty Webber, who’s family had some great super 8 footage from their family surfing trips along the east coast in 70s and 80s, which he was willing to share with us to make the video. The discovery was a beautiful one, as it was exactly what Magpie was looking for and we hope that this video helps with the beautiful memories of both the Webber family and you the viewer. Please enjoy the music and the visuals, and thanks for sharing! Old Road by Magpie Diaries Release date Jan 25th 2024 Recorded at Dashville in the Tractor Shed.
