Join us for the STEAM Café this month! January’s STEAM talk, “The Art of the Invisible: Making Interactive Sculptures About Neutrinos”, will be presented by Washington DC-based artist Chris Combs, the 2025 Artist in Residence at the Sanford Underground Research Facility (SURF). Washington DC-based artist Chris Combs will discuss his time as the 2025 Artist in Residence at the Sanford Underground Research Facility (SURF) in Lead. Combs will talk about his experience 4,850 feet underground, his inspiration for making art about tiny subatomic particles, and answer the question on everyone’s minds: why the heck do his sculptures have wires coming out of them? His work will be on display at South Dakota Mines’ Apex Gallery through March 13. His show, Desperate Remedy/Little Ones, will have its opening reception on Friday, January 23, from 4:30-6:00 PM. The reception is free and open to the public.
