George Wilson, a 23-year-old British man from High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, was arrested in Bangkok, Thailand, in late September 2025. He was found in possession of approximately 9.15 kilograms (20 pounds) of crystal methamphetamine, hidden in foil packets labeled as Chinese tea inside a suitcase at a hotel in Bangkok's red-light district. Police charged him with distributing Category 1 narcotics (methamphetamine) with intent to sell, which is a serious offense under Thai law carrying a potential death penalty or life imprisonment, though sentences of 10 to 20 years are sometimes imposed depending on mitigating factors.Wilson allegedly received the suitcase from another British individual and was to transport the drugs through Suvarnabhumi International Airport to a contact abroad. During his arrest, Wilson claimed he did not know what was inside the suitcase, but police say he confirmed the items as his during questioning.He has appeared in Bangkok South Criminal Court and remains in custody awaiting further legal proceedings. The UK Foreign Office is in contact with Thai authorities and providing consular support.Wilson was reportedly attending school in the UK and had been in Thailand for about two weeks before his arrest.
