Making your own lip balm is super easy. Here's a recipe for a silky smooth nourishing lip balm with naturally occurring sunscreen. Silky Smooth Moisturizing Lip Gloss INGREDIENTS 27 grams beeswax OR candelilla wax (V) 37 grams of a solid oil: coconut oil, shea butter or mango butter 35 grams liquid oil: castor oil, jojoba oil, olive oil, sweet almond oil, apricot kernel oil or macadamia nut oil (I use 30 g castor oil, 5 grams jojoba) 17 grams cocoa butter 1 gram vitamin E oil 1-2 grams honey (optional) 20 drops essential oil: peppermint, cassia bark, sweet almond or coconut DIRECTIONS Bring 2" of water to a simmer over low heat. Weigh out your wax, cocoa butter and coconut oil. Combine the solids in a small container with a pour spout, place them in the water bath and stir until they are melted. Prep your tubes and secure them with a rubber band. A paper towel under them will make cleanup simple. Measure out your liquid carrier oils (castor, jojoba, almond, apricot, olive and/or macadamia nut) and add them to your melted wax mixture. Stir well. Remove the pan from the heat and add in your vitamin E, essential oils and honey. Stir until the honey is mostly dissolved. Immediately pour the liquid balm into your tubes. Once you've filled the last one, go back and top them off until they are slightly bubbled over the top, but not overflowing. The balm settles as it cools. If it starts to set before you're finished pouring, return he pan to the stove for a couple minutes until your mixture is liquid again. Carry on. Let sit at room temperature until they are solid. Store in the freezer. Share and enjoy.
