FREIGHT FOCUS Focus ECML and Peterborough Area

In this video I will examining freight workings in and around Peterborough and the surrounding lines. Here 66066 is seen just south of Peterborough where the East Coast Mainline crosses over the river Nene on a listed cast iron lattice bridge. Trains from the March line past underneath the East Coast Mainline at this point before crossing the Nene. The Werrington dive-under was constructed to enable trains to access the Great Northern/Great Eastern Joint line which heads north towards Spalding and Lincoln without the need to cross over the East Coast Mainline at Werrington Junction. Completed and opened in December 2021 most freight that used to work over the East Coast Mainline north of Peterborough now use the joint line via Spalding instead. Here 66717 heads north from Peterborough with an intermodal working and disappears into dive-under. Trains heading onto the Joint line emerge from the dive under at Glinton Junction. Trains bound for the Oakham line divert away from the dive under at Marholm Junction and head north towards Helpston Junction. We now move to Uffington a few miles north of Peterborough on the Oakham line. Next we look at traffic on the Great Northern/Great Eastern Joint line towards Sleaford and Lincoln.
