212 #Russia 1943 ▶ Stalingrad Battle Reenactment Capitulation 31.01.1943 (Part 1) Capture of General Field Marshal Paulus 6th Army Wehrmacht Military historical reconstruction of the capture of Field Marshal Friedrich Paulus on January 31, 1943, in the basement rooms of the Univermag department store, performed by an amateur theater group from the military history association “Infanterist” Volgograd. / @germanhistoryarchive #germanhistory German History Archive ▶ • GERMAN HISTORY ARCHIVE On January 30, 1943, Paulus was promoted to Field Marshal by radio message from the Führer's headquarters. Since no Field Marshal of the Wehrmacht had ever been taken prisoner before, Hitler wanted to use this promotion to put additional pressure on Paulus to hold his position at all costs – or indirectly urge him to commit suicide. On the morning of January 31, Red Army troops stormed the “Univermag” department store, in whose basement the headquarters of the 6th Army was located. At 7:35 a.m., the radio station there sent its last two messages: “Russians are at the door. We are preparing for destruction.” Shortly thereafter: “We are destroying.” After further attacks by the Red Army on the remaining German positions, Major General Roske, commander of the 71st Infantry Division, surrendered in the southern cauldron. Immediately afterwards, Major General Laskin, chief of staff of the 64th Soviet Army, arrived at the headquarters of the 6th Army, where the surrender negotiations began. On the same day, the central pocket commanded by Colonel General Heitz also surrendered. Paulus, commander-in-chief of the 6th Army, who was also taken prisoner on that day, was interrogated during the night of February 1 by Konstantin Rokossovsky, then Colonel General and later Marshal of the Soviet Union. Hitler was furious when he learned of the commander-in-chief's capture. Paulus had expressly forbidden all officers to commit suicide on the grounds that they should share the fate of their soldiers, now in captivity. #stalingrad #wehrmacht #ww2 history, ww2, Germany, Россия, Stalingrad, Cталинград, simplehistory, military, worldwar, Official Trailer, Official, Battle Of Stalingrad (Event), Stalingrad (Film), Trailer, Film (Film), Theatrical, Theatrical Trailer, Exclusive, History Movie, Movie Theater (Industry), German, Soviet counterattack, Operation Uranus
