Disagreement is an inevitable part of the human condition, yet it is often conflated with conflict. Without difference and disagreement, intellectual diversity or pluralism is impossible; intellectual diversity means disagreement. In other words, if we already all agree, there is no diversity. More disagreement means more intellectual diversity, more opinions, more ideas. Peace and progress, thus, can never be achieved by suppressing disagreement but instead can be achieved by embracing and respecting what they represent. NOTE: This video is a replacement – with subtle visual edits – for a previous video that had 370 views. Sahil Badruddin is a graduate of The University of Texas at Austin with degrees in Chemical Engineering, Religious Studies, and History.
