Why Ride the Trans-Taiga Road? Epic Motorcycle Adventure | Tiger Coward Moto Rides ✦︎This video explains the choice to ride in Northern Quebec adventure that in August of 2024. We set out to conquer the Trans Taiga Road, but first we rode the North Road, and to the top of the Billy Diamond Highway and dipped our toes in the salty waters of James Bay. ✦︎The Trans-Taiga Road is 666 kilometers (415 mi) of unpaved road in the northern wilderness of Quebec, Canada, and is one that few motorcyclists ride. ✦︎At the end of the road you are in the subarctic, close to the 55th parallel north, making it the northernmost continuous road in Eastern North America. Additionally, at the Caniapiscau Reservoir you are the farthest point from any town, via road, in North America (745 kilometers or 463 miles from Radisson). There are no services on the 1,500 km (900 miles) round trip to Radisson. ✦︎The genesis of the Trans Taiga was for construction and service of the hydro-electric generating stations on La Grande and Caniapiscau Rivers. Along your journey on this gravel artery you might encounter a few Hydro-Quebec workers or the occasional Lithium Prospector, but other than that this is a lonesome thruway. At about halfway (km 358) you will find Mirage Outfitters and they provide fuel, food and lodging. The next fuel available is at the end of the road at the Caniapiscau Airfield. The road ranges from well maintained gravel, to fine sand, and rough and rocky.
