By the mid-1990s, the US Department of Defense recognized the potential havoc that could be caused by the turnover of the new millennium when computer systems had to adjust from the 19 prefix to the 20 prefix on year dates. The change presented unforeseen threats to any computer-based communications. By 1998, DISA established and implemented a five-stage plan to cover all the DOD services and to avoid trouble from the Y2K bug. Thanks to DISA’s planning, the millennial turnover occurred with no major challenges and we entered the 20th Century without a hitch! About DISA DISA is the U.S. Department of Defense's premier IT agency, responsible for maintaining the DOD's global information technology infrastructure.
