How to Help Fix Lifter Tick/Tap with STP Oil Treatment

If you're do for an oil change I would highly recommend filling up with Mobil 1 full synthetic oil first and not adding this to see if it will stop the lifter tick (it did with my car as soon as a started it up after the oil change and it ran quietly for several months) if the tick later comes back then try adding in this STP Oil Treatment (or just skip to this step if you aren't ready for an oil change.) I would recommend the High Mileage STP as this issue is probably more likely to happen in a high mileage engine and this formula probably has more additives (zinc) to lubricate the internals and help swell any potentially leaking seals. As you can tell in this video if you are going to add only the STP it will still probably tick afterward (and probably take longer to quiet down than my engine did since I had already added a separate bottle in a month or so back) as it seems to take a while for this oil to circulate throughout the engine and do it's thing. Although this STP has made a huge difference compared to how noisy it was before I still hear the lifters tapping every once and a while but it's usually not near as often and doesn't make noise for very long. Keep in mind my engine has a normal ticking type sound it makes while running that isn't the lifters (like what you heard in the last clip, the lifters tend to be louder and tap at a different interval than any type of other ticking an engine might normally make) so try not to confuse the two. I can't guarantee it will completely quite the noise as an additive can't fix a mechanical problem however it did make a significant difference for me and you aren't really out anything because it would just be like adding in a half quart of oil if it ends up doing nothing else. #LifterTap #FixLifterTap #STP
