Israeli security cabinet approves rules to increase control over West Bank

“We will continue to bury the idea of a Palestinian state” - the statement released by the office of Israel's far-right Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich. It comes a day after the Israeli security cabinet approved sweeping measures to expand Israeli powers over the occupied West Bank. The Palestinian Authority (PA) has criticised the decision as “dangerous, illegal and equal to de facto annexation”. The condemnation has been echoed by several other countries, including Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Egypt, Pakistan, and Turkiye as well as the European Union. Jordan has called the move an attempt to |impose illegal Israeli sovereignty”.
