I love transparent overdrive pedals, for my sins. My Paul Cochrane Timmy and my Greer Lightspeed Organic Overdrive are two of my very favorites – because they always seem to make me sound a bit better, no matter what I’m playing. And for that reason, at least one of them is almost always on whenever I pick up the guitar. So today, I thought I’d pit these transparent titans against one another and see how similar – and how different – they actually are. Nothing scientific, nothing complicated, just a couple of loops where I tweak the pedals’ knobs so we can really hear what they sound like against one another – and stacked together. Get the Greer Lightspeed here: https://bit.ly/GreerLightspeedRWM Good luck finding a Timmy, as I explain in the video! But thankfully you can also you can get the MXR Timmy (designed with Paul Cochrane himself): https://bit.ly/MXRTimmyPedalRWM So, have a listen and tell me which one you prefer! First we have an indie rock loop played on my Fender Telecaster’s bridge single coil pickup, and then a classic rock loop played on the bridge humbucker of my Epiphone Les Paul. The amp went from the Red Box DI straight into my Focusrite Scarlett 2i4, which went into Logic Pro X. That's it. No post-processing on the sounds was done. Oh, and I used my TC Electronic Ditto Looper to play the loops.
