The FDA is taking a hard line position against allowing “cbd" in food while at the same time, admitting that the entirety of the hemp plant can be used as food for human consumption The whole hemp plant may be used as food. The WSDA shall regulate the processing of hemp for food products, that are allowable under federal law, in the same manner as other food processing under chapters 15.130 Washington’s Food Safety and Security Act and 69.07 RCW (Washington Food Processing Act) and may adopt rules as necessary to properly regulate the processing of hemp for food products including, but not limited to, establishing standards for creating hemp extracts used for food. The federal Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and WSDA do not permit CBD to be added to food and beverages or sold as a dietary supplement. The FDA is the overall authority for CBD products derived from Hemp. CBD products like tinctures, lotions, and topicals are allowed.
