Paya Lebar Station – Helper’s Sunday Off. Geylang Serai – Salam Aidil Fitri Food Bazaar & Stalls. I got a special Gift. This video is dedicated to the tens of thousands of Helper’s from our neighbouring countries as well as those overseas vendors who came to setup stalls at Geylang Serai for Salam Aidil Fitri, the contents making up this video. Today, I am going to Paya Lebar station and Geylang Serai area for a visit. Paya Lebar station is FULL of PEAK energy especially on Sundays. Sunday is the Helper’s off day and the only day in a week or for some a month, where they can rest and relax to catch up with friends. Without the Helper’s, Singapore economy shall collapse since no one shall be at home to look after the young children as both parents have to work to pay their debts, loans for the flat, car, children education, etc. There are over 286,000 domestic helpers in Singapore. They come to work in Singapore, to support their family back home. The majority are women from neighboring countries, particularly Indonesia, the Philippines, Myanmar, India, and Bangladesh. They are live-in workers who perform household chores, cooking, and childcare or elderly care. While there is no explicit written law that outright prohibits helpers from forming relationships or having boyfriends, there are conditions tied to their work permits that require them to maintain professional conduct and live with their employers. Domestic helper salaries in Singapore for 2025–2026 typically range from S$500 to S$850+ per month, with an average around S$600–S$700 for live-in help. Rates depend heavily on nationality, experience, and skills (e.g., eldercare). Total monthly costs, including a required S$60–$300 levy, often exceed S$1,000.
