Various shots of injured in hospital STORYLINE : Police in the Indian Kashmiri city of Srinagar fired tear gas and used batons on Friday against more than 1000 Muslim worshippers who staged a protest alleging atrocities by the authorities against civilians. Two protesters were injured and 12 were detained by police. The protest began after prayers in one of the most revered mosques in the Indian portion of Kashmir, and came after the killing on Thursday of a 13-year-old boy by police gunfire in the town of Bandipora, about 65 kilometers (40 miles) north of Srinagar. The police had opened fire on a crowd who were protesting the alleged beating of a village leader and four others men by the security forces. roadblocks were in-place around the town on Friday, preventing visitors from entering. A second group of protesters demonstrated in Maisooma neighbourhood in Srinagar on Friday, also against alleged human rights abuses by Indian security forces. Police on Friday also stopped a protest group from presenting a memorandum against Thursday''''''''s shooting death to the United Nations'''''''' Military Observer Group offices in Srinagar. The memorandum prevailed "upon India to end their repressive designs in occupied Kashmir and save Kashmiris from the terror unleashed by government forces." Yasin Malik, a pro-independence leader of the Jammu-Kashmir Liberation Front, was detained by police as he tried to walk to the UN office, police said.
