Shelter Cove is home of one of the best fisheries off of the Redwood Coast when it comes to halibut, salmon, rock fish, code tuna and crab. Shelter Cove is a friendly and tight community of proud residents. There are a number of hotels and restaurants for visitors looking for a peaceful place to spend time. Abalone Point is located on Lower Pacific Dr. just north of the Cape Mendocino Lighthouse located just north of the marina area. The lighthouse was relocated for preservation from its original location overlooking Sugar Loaf Island north of Shelter Cove in the Petrolia/Capetown area of Humboldt County. Black Sands Beach is located at the deadend of Beach Rd and Humboldt Loop.
