Today we talk about “Growing our own food”. It is something that we find meaningful and recommend to retirees or would be retirees to pursue. It started during the second lock down when Faith expressed her interest in growing some greens. I thought why not and is a good activity to indulge in. It was lockdown and we don’t have anything to start the project and I ordered 6 planter boxes online, shipped from China. Bought seeds and soil online as well and stated germinating the seeds. So, we started with just six planter boxes and it was addictive and we have gradually extended the planting area with construction of beds in front of the house, and later extended to the backyard as well. Faith said she will only harvest and cook. The rest of the role belong to me – the digging, fertilizing, catching bugs, maintenance …. those laborious work. We have found that the taste of the vegetables grown is very different compared to those from supermarkets. Sweet and soft. Contributed by freshness as well because it is straight from garden to the wok. We harvest only when needed. Basils, Ulam Raja as fresh salad. The juice oozes out from the red spinach is so red and likewise the green juice from the potato leaves. Must be abundant of chlorophyll and vitamins. Oh yes, we even had the “lul hei” during the recent Chinese New Year with what we harvested from our little farm. Like the omakase style. Let us give you a guided tour in this video of what grew, and what we are still growing in our garden. @KCfaith Channel Disclaimer: The information provided by us is our opinion and is provided for entertainment and informational purposes only.
