These HOMEMADE Sourdough Dinner Rolls are a Holiday Staple!

Looking for the perfect sourdough dinner rolls for the holidays? This step-by-step tutorial will show you how you can make the fluffiest, most delicious rolls. This recipe, originally from my friend Lisa at @FarmhouseonBoone, has become my go-to for both Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners. These instructions are from Lisa's website, however, I have added my own notes to each one that I found helped when I made them :) ***These rolls are best served fresh as they can become quite dense over time. Ingredients: -1/2 cup sourdough starter -1/4 cup sugar -3/4 cup warm water -1/4 cup melted butter -1/2 teaspoon sea salt -2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour -Egg, for egg wash Instructions -In a stand mixer bowl, add ingredients. -Mix on a medium speed, for my mixer that is 3 but I believe on a KitchenAid it would be around 2. -Place in a bowl and cover with a cover, beeswax wrap, or plastic (It is important not to let the dough dry out). -Allow to rise overnight (8-12 hours). This also depends on your house temp, for me I can let this rise up to 15 hours in the winter. You can also put it in the oven with the light on. -Divide the dough into eight equal parts. -Form the dough into balls. I pinch the dough into the middle and then flip it over and use the tackiness from the counter to create tension in the balls. -Place the shaped rolls into a greased 9×13 rectangle dish or a 12" cast iron skillet. Cover with a damp towel. Allow it to rise until doubled, approximately one to two hours (I like to do this in the oven with the light on). -Preheat oven to 375f. -Brush top with egg wash (optional, but will give it that lovely golden color). -Place the rolls into the oven for about 25-30 minutes, or until they start turning golden brown and the internal temp is 200f.
