New Year’s in Japan isn’t as loud or party-like as in some other countries. Instead, we usually gather with family or friends, count down together in front of the TV, or welcome the New Year by visiting a shrine. In Japan, the New Year holidays are actually longer than Christmas. We spend time at home enjoying lots of delicious food, going out, traveling a bit, and shopping.
