It's been a whirlwind few days for Matt Goodwin. A fortnight ago the academic turned political commentator and GB News presenter was unveiled as the Reform UK candidate for Gorton and Denton in what's expected to be one of the most high-profile and hotly contested by-elections in recent memory. And since then he's found himself canvassing the streets where he used to work as a Pizza Hut delivery driver while studying at Salford University. But the 44-year-old has also been a controversial pick for Reform. His critics and opponents have described him as being part of the 'radical right' and accused him of racism following comments he made in the wake of the Huntingdon train attack. Labour, for their part, said Mr Goodwin represents divisive politics which will 'drive a wedge between communities' in the constituency. In a wide-ranging interview with the Manchester Evening News at his campaign HQ on an industrial estate next to the M67, he discussed his views on multiculturism and immigration, backed the campaign to revive Denton's 'ghost station' and issued a plea to Noel Gallagher, whose childhood home in Burnage he could end up representing.
