August 25, 2025 UPDATE On Monday, August 25, 2025, the Chief of Police authorized the release of the officer’s name who was involved in an Officer-Involved Shooting that occurred in Rampart Area. The involved officer has been identified as Rampart Area Police Officer II Ivan Ibarra, Serial No. 37639. *The following information is based on a preliminary and ongoing investigation, which continues to evolve as investigators interview witnesses, review physical and electronic records, and analyze forensic evidence. The Department’s understanding of the facts and circumstances may change as additional evidence is collected and analyzed* Los Angeles: Los Angeles Police Department’s (LAPD) Force Investigation Division is investigating an Officer-Involved Shooting (OIS) that occurred in Rampart Division. On August 21, 2025, at around 4:15a.m., Rampart Patrol Division uniformed officers responded to a radio call of “ADW Shots Fired,” at Vendome Street and Beverly Boulevard. The person reporting stated they heard two gunshots and multiple people yelling. Upon arrival, officers heard gunfire coming from the rear parking lot of a business in the 3000 block of Beverly Boulevard. There they observed the suspect, later identified as 20-year-old Guillermo Calel-Acabal, inside a gray van in possession of a firearm and an Officer-Involved Shooting (OIS) occurred. Following the OIS, officers ordered Calel-Acabal out of the vehicle and took him into custody without further incident. Los Angeles Fire Department personnel transported Calel-Acabal to a local hospital where he was treated for metal fragments embedded in the top of his head and subsequently cleared for booking. Calel-Acabal was booked for 245(D)(2) PC- Assault with a Deadly Weapon (ADW) on a Police Officer with a Firearm. A loaded black semi-automatic 9-millimeter handgun was recovered in the van between the driver and passenger seats and booked as evidence. No officers or other community members were injured during this incident. Force Investigation Division investigators responded to the scene and are investigating this incident.
