This year marks the 20th anniversary of the Yokohama Civic Art Gallery Azamino, and they’re celebrating with a special Azamino Photo Annual exhibition that dives deep into the Yokohama City Camera and Photography Collection. The collection was built by American industrialist Thurman F. Naylor (1919–2007) and captures the history of cameras and photography from around the world. It showcases how technology and creativity have evolved — from early daguerreotypes to iconic cameras like Kodak and Leica, and even travel souvenirs connected to photography. You’ll find around 300 carefully selected items from a massive collection of over 12,000 pieces, including the legendary first-ever photographic book “The Pencil of Nature”, on display for the first time in 10 years. Naylor’s passion and curiosity for all things photography really come to life here — like stepping into his own private Wunderkammer (cabinet of curiosities)!
