Finnish Bolshevik has for a while had a video on the Kronstadt Revolt, or Rebellion, or Mutiny. Whilst containing some truths, it's overly filled with omissions, fleeting interpretations, and dishonest attacks on the makeup and nature of the fleet. There hasn't been much of a response made to it and I feel its giving people a bad interpretation of the event, so I have decided to respond. Some good reading on the topic: The Anarchist FAQ https://anarchistfaq.org/afaq/append4... (The FAQ is very long and probably needs a bit of updating, it is still however a fantastic starting point for engaging with these points) Kronstadt by Paul Avrich: https://files.libcom.org/files/kronst... (This is a very important and extensive piece on the topic. It is dated and predates the opening of the archives, however impressively it still holds up and gives a very transparent worts and all depiction of the revolt Avrich was a fellow traveller of Anarchism) The Unknown Revolution Part 3 by Volin: https://theanarchistlibrary.org/libra... (Volin was a Russian Anarchist contemporary of the time and writes on the actions. Bare in mind of course he died shortly after WW2 and his words are dated) A Reply to the ICL-FI’s “Bolshevism vs. Counterrevolution” https://theanarchistlibrary.org/libra... (A Sparticus article which has strangely disappeared from most searches a few years ago tends to get thrown around a lot. A Russian language speaker has very kindly decided to respond to it.) https://archive.is/7eZlC) Kronstadt Tragedy: https://docs.historyrussia.org/ru/nod... (This is a primary source search engine from the archives. It is quite the challenge to search and find documents as they are all in cyrillic) Kronstadt 1921: The Fate of Soviet Democracy by Israel Getzler: https://files.libcom.org/files/Israel... (Another good source although the citations on the make up of the fleet appear to be outdated. Israel was an Anarchist) The Kronstadt Revolt and the workers movement by Simon Pirani: https://peopleandnature.wordpress.com... (This is a more modern report on the revolt. Pirani comes from the ‘marxist tradition’.) My Disillusionment in Russia by Emma Goldman: https://files.libcom.org/files/Emma%2... (A first hand account of Emma Goldman’s experiences in Russia before, during, and after the revolt. The text is often derided by ML’s and Trots as an attempt by Emma to return to the USA) White Army Stats: The most common number I see, from Peter Kenez to Jonathan Smele states 145,693 people who had been evacuated from Crimea to Istanbul at the end of 1920. This number included both civilians and soldiers, so can then roughly estimate the amount of soldiers more or less. Avrich estimates 70-80,000.
