Nicola Masini – Il Pietragalla Project : Osservazione e analisi della microtopografia

Giornate europee dell’archeologia 21 giugno 2020 - This is the eighth video in a series about the Pietragalla Project made for the European Archaeology Days. The online conference was organised by the two universities leading the project (Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne and Humboldt Universität zu Berlin) with the support of the Soprintendenza Archeologia Belle Arti e Paesaggio della Basilicata, the city of Pietragalla, the Italian National Research Council (Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche), the University of Basilicata and several local partners working in the heritage sector. Nicola Masini, researcher at the Istituto Scienze del Patrimonio Culturale of the Italian National Research Council (CNR), talks about the microtopographic investigations that are conducted on the site of Pietragalla using remote sensing techniques such as drone photogrammetry and medium resolution Lidar. These techniques allow to see through the dense vegetation of the site, in order to reveal potential structures and new areas worth exploring both inside and outside the fortification walls.
