©BBC 2020 - COPYRIGHT REMAINS WITH THE ORIGINAL OWNER AND IS USED FOR EDUCATIONAL & REFERENCE USE. Terry Quinlan is among thousands of British servicemen involved in Britain's nuclear bomb testing programme in the 1950s who have suffered and are still suffering severe ill-health as a result of being exposed to radiation from the nuclear tests on Christmas Island. Quinlan and his colleagues were given no protective clothing and he had cancerous tumors removed when he was 23. Veterans will find out in February 2020 if they will receive a medal for their service which could lead to compensation for the remaining 1,500 servicemen still alive. Amanda Akass reports.
