Joshua & Jason take you through the tasting notes of their first BenRiach bottled for the US since 2012! This BenRIach spent 10 years in a Bourbon Barrel and its final 4 years in a 2nd Fill Chinkapin Oak Barrel. Launching September 18th at 12noon EST, and bottled at 57.9% ABV, this single cask of Clynelish yielded just 228 bottles and will sell for only $140. A classic Speyside distillery renown for its incredibly fruity spirit style and made a Whisky-Household name under the guidance and care of Billy Walker before he sold it onto Brown-Foreman. The extra 4 years in Chinkapin Oak (lightly toasted/Medium Char) not only enhanced the natural tropical fruit flavors but brings forth a wonderful spicy character that keeps you coming back for another sip. Tasting notes are as follows: Color: Burnt Sienna Nose: A beguiling warmth on the nose with very pleasing toasted oak (hints of toasted coconut, toasted hazelnuts, and vanilla bean), a delicate, candy fruitiness builds (Red Vines and old school wax candy lips) before notes of freshly harvested hay peek in around the edges Palate: Such a chewy whisky! More toasted oak on the palate with a warm fruitiness (cobblers and crumbles with pears, apples, and peaches come to mind) and abundant granola notes (honey, toasted oats, toasted hazelnuts, and, yes, more toasted coconut!) Finish: Lingering warmth with a complex sweetness (brown butter, brown sugar, and warm honey) that’s balanced by soft ground ginger and a hint of coriander seed On the label: Wow! We’ve long been fans of Benriach’s fruity spirit but the finish in Chinkapin oak really elevates the overall experience here. An overall warmth and abundant toasted notes make for a richly comforting dram. Again, wow!
