In this episode we are fly fishing for Rainbow trout on a windy day, which helps with fly movement, as they fish with rubber-tail leeches under strike indicators. All fish caught and released are over 3 pounds. Dog Gun lake seems to be full of leeches. Just stepping into the water to get to our boats we get leeches on our boots and into the boats. Crazy. We found out why fly fishing with leeches is often a preferred method. It is not fast fishing and takes persistence and focus but the challenge is worth it every time we hook into a fish. We really have no need to change flies all day except switching up the color patterns of the rubber-tail leeches. The key we find is getting the fly to the right depth within a foot of bottom. The depth finder comes in very handy. We anchor our Dogfish boats (https://dogfishboats.com/) and try to hold against the wind. After releasing one of the fish our net sinks to the bottom, so Ladin decides to go in after it risking leech infested waters. His dive is not successful but we do eventually figure out a way to get out net back. The scenery at Dog Gun Lake is really spectacular with the close backdrop of the Rocky Mountains of Glacier National Park. We have seen Grizzly bears here up the hill above the lake. A fantastic day in the outdoors of Montana. I hope you enjoy this episode. Mike from Northwest Outfitters (https://nwoutfitters.com/) talks about using the angle of your cast to keep the fly in the right zone as you swing through a run. Fly Fishing with Ladin's primary purpose is to share fly fishing techniques and places to fly fish in the Western United States. We are a dedicated fly fishing YouTube channel promoting catch and release fly fishing. Our motto is having fun catching and releasing fish. We want to share our passion with others. We are not professionals. We are passionate about fly fishing but we do not take ourselves to seriously. We show our mistakes, falling in, getting flies stuck in wrong places, loosing fish. The same things that all of us experience fly fishing. We have been fly fishing northwest waters for over forty years. But we are always learning new things that we like to pass along. We think our channel is a great place to get ideas for fly fishing vacations and weekend trips. Thank you for taking the time to check out our channel and watch our videos.
