The World Famous Aliwal Shoal & The Sardine Run, South Africa. The first memory of Aliwal Shoal and The Sardine Run was it was cold. I must have softened up in my old age, but I was shaking after about thirty minutes in the sea. Aliwal Shoal was spectacular, and I wish we had spent more time there. Sand Tigers were everywhere, and I even encountered a juvenile Great White, but it was so cold that it was gone by the time I turned my GoPro on. At the time, not having bait balls of millions of Sardines was a little disappointing. But now, looking back over the footage, the four days we spend hunting the Sardines was terrific. The pods of Dolphins, the snorkelling with Humpback Whales, the Dangerous Palergic Sharks, all were amazing. Including the Estate, we stayed on, their food, bar and hospitality. I would do it again, but perhaps wearing a dry suit next time.
