"Let us be a country that always honours its debts, not just its financial ones, but its moral ones too"👏 Thank you Tony! Labour MP for Folkestone and Hythe, Tony Vaughan told a packed Westminster Hall debate that plans to double migrants' wait for settlement must be abandoned. At the 3-hour debate on Tuesday 4 February, many MPs spoke up in agreement with Vaughan. Every backbencher who spoke opposed retroactivity. Most emphasised the impact on their constituents, describing the uncertainty and anxiety the proposals have caused for individuals and families already living in the UK. The UK government has announced the biggest restrictions to settlement rights in decades. Under the proposals, most people will have to wait atleast 10 years for Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) - double what they were promised. If they go ahead, these plans will make the UK system one of the harshest in the Western world. In Germany, France, Canada, and Australia, migrants are typically offered settlement after 3-5 years. We urge every MP with a conscience to stand against them. Find out more: https://www.workrightscentre.org/our-...
