What appears at first glance to be a general salutation in Jude’s letter is, in fact, a carefully constructed identity statement designed to ground the readers in assurance before confronting them with severe warnings. In this session we will focus on recipients of Jude’s epistle, with exegetical, historical, and doctrinal clarity. Paul wrote to individuals and churches. Jesus taught disciples. Matthew, Mark, Luke and John wrote history. John wrote future history. Peter wrote about how to endure suffering and false teachers. Jude wrote just one letter that has been ensconced in the cannon of Scripture we call the Holy Bible. In 25 verses he gives direction to every church who reads his letter. He writes like a battle tested soldier who has come face to face with his enemy and wants nothing less that to train the church how to fight against all who would defame and defraud the Gospel of Christ Jesus. To this end he describes the only audience that can carry God’s word like like a sword and shield.
